M Powered Strategies would like to extend a warm welcome to Adam Maynard and Ashley Hill, who have joined our team at the Department of Health and Human Services.

After graduating from Rutgers University in 2009 with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, Adam Maynard moved to D.C. and began working as a paralegal for a major energy law firm in the District.  There he honed his project management and document management skills while working for a variety of multi-national corporate clients.  Adam also assisted and advised stakeholders in alternative dispute resolution measures negotiated between clients and their union counter-parts.  Adam is excited to put these skill sets to further use, and to build new relationships in the public sector.  For fun, Adam plays on and captains three different soccer teams, fishes, assuming he can ever find the fish and exploring the District and surrounding area with his girlfriend.

Ashley Hill

Ashley Hill

Ashley Hill earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh in Health Policy and Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Decision Science from Carnegie Mellon University. During her time at Carnegie Mellon she studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa where she engaged in a research and internship opportunity with the provincial Legislature Committee on Health.  Later, while pursuing her graduate degree, Ashley participated in The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship program. As a fellow, she enhanced her project development and management skills while implementing a health and nutrition education program for homeless youth in a local underserved community.  Upon completion of the Schweitzer Fellowship, the Ohio native, returned home to work with Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge on health policy initiatives.  Ashley is excited to combine her interest in public service and healthcare at M Powered Strategies.

Emily Prouty

Emily joined M Powered Strategies as part of our Facilitation Service Line supporting VRM (Veterans Relationship Management). Originally from Northern Colorado, Emily comes to M Powered Strategies after living in Nashville, Tennessee as a student and honorary Southerner.  During her time at Vanderbilt University, she completed a Bachelors of Arts in Latin American Studies, a Masters of Education in Community Development and Action, and studied for a year at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Chile.  Her academic work took her to Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina and Bangladesh and allowed her to explore most of Latin America.  During this time she honed her skills in stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation and project design on a variety of research projects.  She looks forward to applying these competencies as she moves into the world of management consulting in the public sector.  She is excited about the abundant public transportation and many museums available in her new DC home. She also enjoys running, farmers markets, Pilates, public parks and potted plants.

Carl Crampton was recently presented a Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Certificate of Appreciation by Leo Phelan, Executive Director of Veterans Relationship Management (VRM) for Carl’s work with the VRM Project Management Office in planning and executing acquisitions in FY12. Beyond executing their assigned budget for acquisitions, the VRM PMO team was able to take on additional requests from other programs to complete even more acquisitions for other business capabilities. Carl has been a member of the VRM PMO since May 2010 and is tasked with preparing VRM’s out year budgets and OMB Exhibit 300 submissions. “Being able to articulate VA business requirements into budget needs, justify the budget request, and acquire the services necessary to achieve those business requirements is the key to achieving better services for our Veterans.”

Carl has worked for clients at the VA with M Powered Strategies since April 2007. He is a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer with experience in IT services from his work with MITRE, Nextel and Sprint Nextel.

M Powered Strategies Welcomes the AMPs of Fall 2012

In response to client demand, the M Powered Strategies Applied Management Professionals (AMP) Program kicked off its first fall season on October 1st. As a result of three summers of excellent work and superior deliverables from our AMPs at the Office of Information Technology and Shared Services at the Department of Transportation, a new group of AMPs has come in this fall. They will be working with our partner ActioNet to support Quality Assurance, Audit Support, Customer Advocacy Management, Network Services, Desktop Engineering, and Incident Management teams.

Alessandra Colia, the director of the M Powered Strategies AMP Program is excited about the new trend. “This is the direction we have been planning to move in for some time, due to high demand from students and clients alike. Our fall AMPs have impressive and diverse backgrounds. Above all they share a passion for making government better.” The AMPs hail from all over the country, including the nation’s top graduate programs at George Mason University, The George Washington University, School for International Training, and the University of California at San Diego.

Nic Turrentine (Team Lead) is excited to take on the new challenge as Team Lead for the Applied Management Professionals (AMP) Program at the Department of Transportation. Nic has worked for M Powered Strategies since May 2011 and has supported projects within the agencies of Health and Human Services, U.S. Forest Service, and Veterans Affairs.  For the past two summers, Nic has been actively involved in the AMP Program as a mentor and trainer.  He is looking forward to working with the AMPs and further strengthening our relationship with our DOT and ActioNet partners.
Marc-Anthony Isaacs

Marc-Anthony Isaacs

An interest in both civil service and private sector finance/consulting led Marc-Anthony Isaacs to M Powered Strategies.  A native of the Southside of Chicago, Marc attended Carleton College in Minnesota where he received his B.A. in Chinese language and literature. After a couple of extended tours in Asia, and after completing his first M.A. in Chinese studies, Marc earned a second Masters degree from  the University of California, San Diego’s Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS). His focus was on international management with particular attention placed on China and Japan.
Kiya Kassa

Kiya Kassa

Born and raised in the Washington DC area, Kiya Kassa received his BA in International Affairs from Georgetown University in 2010. After concluding his undergraduate studies, Kiya traveled to his parent’s native country of Ethiopia. He spent 6 months in the capital city of Addis Ababa working on a project to introduce a new marketing strategy for the International Leadership Institute. Kiya is currently enrolled in George Mason’s School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution program and expects to receive his MS in Conflict Analysis and Resolution in the fall of 2013. When he is not in the library or at work, Kiya enjoys spending quality time with friends and family and discussing changing global trends.
Maria Mejia

Maria Mejia

Growing up globally (she has lived in over 7 countries), Maria Mejia developed a keen interest in sustainability and civic engagement. She recently completed a Masters degree in Sustainable Development, International Policy and Management from SIT Graduate Institute in Washington, DC. During her time there she worked with international organizations such as Pact, Just Associates, and the Sao Paulo-based CSR consultancy organization, Ethos Institute. Prior to grad school, Maria served in Peace Corps Guatemala, working as a Sustainable Community Tourism Facilitator. She received her B.S in Interdisciplinary Studies, Environmental Studies Track from the University of Central Florida.
Emily Sherrod

Emily Sherrod

An Alabama native, Emily Sherrod is currently a Master of Public Administration candidate at The George Washington University’s Trachtenberg School, with a focus on Urban Policy and Management. After graduating from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in Communication, Emily served with AmeriCorps*VISTA at a disadvantaged elementary school in Charleston, SC, where she primarily worked in programs management and fundraising. Most recently, Emily interned in the membership and development departments of Slow Food USA and helped with their $5 Challenge. In her free time, Emily can often be found cooking at home, exploring DC parks with her dog, or trying to tackle dishes on Washington’s 40 Essential Eats list.
Luke Ventura

Luke Ventura

Luke Ventura is a recent graduate of the Master of Public Administration program at The George Washington University, with a focus in Social Justice and Humanitarian Aid.  While attending GW, he worked as a Research and Program Assistant at Partnerships for International Strategies in Asia, and interned for U.S. Rep. Tim Holden (PA).  Before attending GW, he earned a BA in Elementary and Special Education at La Salle University in Philadelphia, was chosen as a Founding Teacher at Washington DC’s first all-boys public charter school, and helped manage a small business.   He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served for two years in Thailand’s Teacher Collaboration and Community Outreach Project.  In his spare time, he enjoys yoga, jogging, loud music, and travel.

After two years of small enterprise development work in Cameroon, Africa, Kathryn returned to New York where she earned her MBA from the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester. The Long Island, NY, native also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island. Along with academic concentrations focused in marketing and international management, she has a wide range of professional experiences in project management and program analysis in public, private, and non-profit sectors. During Kathryn’s service in Cameroon she designed, implemented, and evaluated multiple rounds of a sustainable 6-week business course program, as well as managed many marketing and micro-finance projects.

Outside of work Kathryn enjoys international travel, foreign languages, and living a healthy lifestyle. Her commitment to service, paired with her passion for helping others, aligns her goals with M Powered Strategies’ mission and core values. She is excited to be in Washington, DC, working with the M Powered Strategies Health and Human Services team.

Theodora Campbell-Orde came to M Powered Strategies in October to work on the HHS contract, focusing on Project Management activities. Thea holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a Master of Public Administration from University of Massachusetts. She was raised in Tennessee and gained her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee. Most recently, Theodora served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine, where she taught English, coached community members on fundraising and project management, as well as developed and managed community development projects. Prior to Peace Corps, Theodora managed and contributed to a broad base of projects including IT, continuing education, research and evaluation projects at the American Institute of Architects.  In her free time she enjoys yoga, running, and hiking.

Allison Primack

Allison Primack joined M Powered Strategies in September. She joined the team as an Associate Analyst, diving headfirst into the RCA for the Direct Project with Erin and Kendall, and will be working on the new HHS contract from here forward.

Allison was born and raised in Stockton, California. She completed her undergraduate degree in Communication, Political Science, and History at the University of California, San Diego. While interning at School Innovations and Advocacy in Sacramento over her last summer as an undergraduate, she developed an interest in public policy. After working as a research assistant on a government spending project for a member of the United Kingdom Parliament in London, she moved to Washington, DC to complete her Masters of Public Policy at the George Washington University. She spent this past summer in California, doing research for the University of California, Davis Center of Human Services on crossover youth, and how to incorporate their specific probation needs into the California juvenile justice system’s policies.

Allison will complete her Masters degree this fall. In her free time she likes to travel and explore new places in DC (especially restaurants), and manage her fantasy football team.
