With a touch of sadness, as well as pride, M Powered Strategies (MPS) said farewell to staffer, Tyler Owens, who was selected for a Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF). PMF is a two-year fellowship with the Federal Government. Fellows begin with one agency or department, but have the opportunity to do rotations within other offices. The program is designed to attract, train, and retain the public sector leaders of tomorrow.

To be accepted into the program, Tyler had to go through a rigorous application process that included essays, web-based exams, and various in-person exercises. He is currently working in global public health at the State Department. Going forward, he hopes to better understand and improve service delivery models in U.S. foreign assistance. Tyler says his tenure with M Powered Strategies was a great training ground for his current work. “My time at MPS, including my client work with the International Trade Administration, provided an excellent opportunity to learn about project management methodologies.“

Andrew MacDonald, HR Director at MPS, expressed his enthusiasm for Tyler’s trajectory. “We are proud when our people leave to take on government positions, particularly opportunities as prestigious as the Presidential Management Fellowship.”

MPS Achieves Designation “Employer of National Service”

We are proud to announce that M Powered Strategies has achieved the official designation Employer of National Service. The Employer of National Service initiative was started by President Obama to recognize the valuable skills gained by Americans who have worked for organizations like Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, and connect those alumni with employers who are interested in providing advancement opportunities for mission-oriented individuals.

Through this initiative, MPS joins an impressive list of companies that attract and develop employees with a background in national service. Our President and CEO Kendall Lott began his public service career as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Federated States of Micronesia. Almost one quarter of MPS employees are Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV) that bring incredibly diverse experience to our company—from teaching English to promoting grassroots economic development in developing countries.

We know that national service alumni represent the best our country has to offer. When they finish their time overseas, they look to continue leading lives of service at home. MPS seeks to foster a culture in which our staff can continue their lives of national service, by almost exclusively serving mission-oriented federal departments and executives.

Beyond client delivery, MPS strongly emphasizes its pro bono service line, in which staff are encouraged to donate not just their time, but their particular skills, to organizations in need. The core values of our company are tied very closely to this dedication to public service, in federal and non-profit spaces. Though many of the staff are RPCV, every member of the staff is motivated by the idea that our company serves to empower change-makers in the federal government.
